EXTREMELY RARE ROUGH TRADE POSTER BY REX : (1973)

LARGE ONE-OF-A-KIND ROUGH TRADE POSTER BY REX : (1973)

This original large poster (16 by 21 1/2 inches) was one of the very first published works by the artist REX. This one of a kind poster printed in 1973 was used to advertise the first illustrated gay paperback story books, called the ROUGH TRADE series and was published by STAR DISTRIBUTORS in New York. These S&M themed stories centered on bondage and the emerging leather scene in the gay community in the early nineteen seventies. Although several artists provided illustrations for this series, those paperback books illustrated by REX proved the most popular, and were thus chosen to advertise the series in Adult Gay Book Stores at the time. This one-of-a-kind original poster, in uncirculated MINT condition, is printed on semi-gloss three-color paper stock

BELOW : The cover from one of these REX illustrated ROUGH TRADE paperback series--SLAVE BOY (left)--is shown beside the poster (right) to show the distinctive graphic color layout that was the trademark of the series. NOTE: The ROUGH TRADE series represents the first published work of the artist REX, making this last surviving poster an extremely rare addition for any collector of REX art
